Transport medium with swab is a specialized type of medium used to transport and preserve various types of clinical specimens, such as swabs taken from the throat, nose, or other body sites, for laboratory testing. It typically consists of a tube containing a liquid medium and a swab.

The liquid medium in the tube is designed to maintain the viability and integrity of the collected specimen during transportation to the laboratory. It usually contains a balanced mixture of nutrients, buffering agents, and antimicrobial agents to prevent the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms that may be present in the specimen.

The swab, which is usually made of synthetic material like polyester or rayon, is used to collect the specimen from the desired body site. After collection, the swab is inserted into the transport medium tube, ensuring that the swab tip is fully immersed in the liquid medium. The tube is then securely sealed to prevent any leakage or contamination.

• Insert the seeded sterile swabs into the upper third of the transport medium inside the transport container.
• Break the protruding part of the swab and screw it tight.
• Send to lab within 24 hours for culture analysis.
• Samples can be refrigerated until ready to ship.
